Coach Hire Across Switzerland

Davos Coach Hire for Congress, Hockey and Ski Groups

Davos lets coaches park in two places only. Panorama is open all year; Metz opens to coaches from June to November. Both need a coach parking card, so sort the card before the timetable.

Panorama, Metz and the parking card

The rule covers every vehicle over 3.5 t. Panorama lies by the ice stadium on the Kurgartenstrasse, a 15-minute walk from the station at Davos Platz. The card is bought online or at the commune counter. A coach may not park at any other public car park.

From 1 November to 30 April there is no night parking between 03.00 and 07.00, except at car parks with 24-hour paid parking. A driver staying overnight needs a plan for that.

Congress Centre days

Halfway between the two villages on the Talstrasse, the Congress Centre lies a 20-minute walk from each station. Its plenary hall seats 1,800. Its own car park has 250 spaces and takes no bookings, so coach groups still plan on Panorama.

The World Economic Forum meets from 18 to 22 January 2027, according to Davos tourism. The resort tells visitors to come by public transport that week, because parking nearby is very scarce. Book well ahead for that week.

Where a coach can stop in Davos, and other rules

  • Zurich Airport (ZRH) is about 160 km by road from Davos Platz, about 2.75 h in light traffic, via Landquart, Klosters and the Wolfgang pass (open all year; snow chains may be needed above Klosters in heavy snow). Journeys take longer at peak times.
  • Railway stations: Davos Platz (staffed, Talstrasse, with the bus station) and Davos Dorf (unstaffed), on the RhB line from Landquart and Klosters, with a line on to Filisur for the Albula line and the Glacier Express. The Congress Centre lies between the two, about 20 minutes on foot from each. The Klosters Platz–Davos Platz line is closed until 16 October 2026 and again from 23 August to 15 October 2027, with replacement buses that can carry groups only to a limited extent.
  • Coach parking: vehicles over 3.5 t may park only at Parkplatz Panorama (all year, by the ice stadium on the Kurgartenstrasse, about 15 minutes on foot from Davos Platz station) and Parkplatz Metz (1 June to 30 November only), with a coach parking card bought online or at the commune counter (paid). Parking a coach at any other public car park is not allowed. From 1 November to 30 April there is no night parking from 03:00 to 07:00, except at car parks with 24-hour paid parking.
  • Ice hockey: coaches and minibuses coming to an HC Davos game must register on the club's online form up to 48 hours before the game. The club names the Metz car park for match coaches, but the commune opens Metz to coaches only from June to November, so the operator confirms the coach park for winter games and the Spengler Cup.
  • World Economic Forum Annual Meeting: 18 to 22 January 2027 at the Congress Centre. Public parking around the meeting is very limited, and the resort advises public transport.
  • Spengler Cup ice-hockey tournament: 26 to 31 December 2026 at the Eisstadion Davos.
  • Passes (Touring Club Schweiz pass list): the Flüela towards the Engadin is usually closed from January to May, and the Albula from December to May; in winter St. Moritz is reached over the Julier pass or with the Vereina car train from Klosters Selfranga (RhB), which runs every 30 minutes all year and takes buses up to 3.77 m loading height on covered wagons. Depending on the wagon, coach passengers stay on board or are booked onto a scheduled train between Klosters and Lavin.
  • Cabotage: under Article 20 of the EU-Switzerland Land Transport Agreement, a coach operator established in an EU state may not carry passengers between two places in Switzerland. A group journey that starts and ends in Switzerland therefore needs a vehicle from an operator established in Switzerland. Coaches may carry groups across the border in both directions; these occasional services need no authorisation, but the coach carries a journey form (Fahrtenblatt).
  • Road charges: coaches and other buses over 3.5 tonnes pay the flat-rate heavy vehicle fee (pauschale Schwerverkehrsabgabe, PSVA) for every day they are in Switzerland, on all public roads, and need no motorway vignette; foreign-registered coaches pay the PSVA online through the BAZG "Via" portal or app before entering Switzerland. Minibuses and cars up to 3.5 tonnes need the motorway vignette (the e-vignette linked to the number plate, or the sticker) to use motorways and expressways (Autobahnen / autoroutes / autostrade).
  • Speed and driving bans: on motorways and expressways coaches may drive at up to 100 km/h (articulated buses and scheduled buses with standing places excepted); heavy vehicles are otherwise limited to 80 km/h. The Swiss night driving ban (22:00 to 05:00) and the Sunday and public-holiday ban for heavy vehicles do not apply to vehicles carrying passengers.
  • Drivers' hours: coach drivers follow the Swiss ordinance ARV 1, aligned with the EU rules: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest, recorded by tachograph. Drivers of foreign-registered coaches must keep the same driving, break and rest rules in Switzerland. In domestic traffic, professional drivers of cars and of minibuses with up to 16 seats besides the driver follow ARV 2 instead.
  • Winter: Switzerland has no general winter-tyre obligation, but a vehicle must be fit for the road conditions and the driver must keep control of it at all times; the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) recommends winter tyres from October to Easter. Where the sign "Schneeketten obligatorisch" / "chaînes à neige obligatoires" / "Catene per la neve obbligatorie" (sign 2.48) is shown, at least two drive wheels on the same axle must be fitted with snow chains.

Hockey at the Eisstadion Davos

For an HC Davos game, every coach and minibus must be registered with the club online, no later than 48 hours ahead. The club names Metz for match coaches, but Metz is closed to coaches from December to May. For winter games, and for the Spengler Cup from 26 to 31 December 2026, the operator settles the coach park beforehand.

Roads in and out

From Zurich Airport, allow about 2.75 hours. The road runs by Landquart and Klosters over the Wolfgang pass, kept open in winter; in heavy snow, chains can be required beyond Klosters. The Flüela to the Engadin closes from January to May, so in winter St. Moritz is about 2.25 hours via Lenzerheide and the Julier.

The Landwasser Viaduct at Filisur is about 45 minutes away. The viewing platform is reached by a seasonal shuttle train. No official coach stop was found for the viewpoint, so the operator agrees one in advance.

What organisers ask us

Can the coach wait at the Congress Centre?

Plan on Panorama or Metz, the two places the commune allows for vehicles over 3.5 t. The congress car park takes no reservations.

Is Liechtenstein a realistic day trip?

Yes. Vaduz is about 1.5 hours by road. A Swiss-based coach may cross the border and come back the same day.

How do we get a coach to St. Moritz in winter?

Over the Julier pass, open all year, or with the Vereina car train from Klosters Selfranga, which runs every 30 minutes and takes buses on covered wagons.
