Basel, Lucerne and Geneva: Coaches at the Water

River cruise groups arrive in Basel with their cases; lake groups in Lucerne and Geneva come for a few hours on the water. Both need the coach at the right landing stage at the right time.

First find the landing stage

Basel's cabin ships use three places: St. Johann on the Grossbasel bank, Klybeckquai and Dreiländereck across the river. The cruise documents say which one. No coach rules are published at the stages, so the operator confirms where the coach waits.

Lucerne's lake boats depart from the Bahnhofquai, facing the station. The Inseliquai beside the KKL takes coaches for setting down and picking up without a voucher, but not for parking. In Geneva no coach stop is published at the piers, and the operator agrees one nearby.

What organisers ask us

Can the coach go straight from the ship to the airport?

Yes. From the Basel landing stages, EuroAirport is about 9 to 10 km and Zurich Airport about 92 km.

Where does the coach wait in Lucerne during a boat trip?

At a coach park: Brüelmoos, Rösslimatt in Kriens, or Alpenquai/Landenberg, where the limit is 2 hours.

Can the coach the group came on from Germany do the transfers?

Crossing the border with the group is fine, in and out. A run from the ship in Basel to Lucerne and back stays inside the country, so it needs a Swiss-based coach.
