Coach transfers at Bern Airport, Belp

Bern Airport is small: one terminal at Belp, south-east of the city, and mainly seasonal holiday flights. For a club or school group flying from here the transfer is short, but none of it is published, so everything is agreed in advance.

What the airport does not publish

There is no published coach pick-up point, coach park, group meeting point or waiting area for cars with driver. Groups are met in the terminal and walk to the vehicle standing in front of it. Exactly where the coach stands is settled with the operator before the flight.

Car parks P31 and P21 are near the terminal, charged by the hour, and spaces cannot be reserved. That works for a car with driver; for a coach, the stopping place is part of the booking.

Check the flight before you plan

Most of the 2026 flight plan is holiday flying between April and mid-October: southern Europe, North Africa, the Channel Islands. A small München link has been on trial since spring 2026. No winter flight plan was out when we checked, so read the current one before you plan a trip around Bern.

If the group flies from Zürich or Genève instead, the coach can collect it there. Zurich Airport is about 1 h 45 min from the Zytglogge by coach, Geneva Airport about 2 h 15 min.

Where the coach collects the group

  • The airport does not publish a coach pick-up point, a coach park, a group meeting point or a waiting area for cars with driver. Groups are met in the terminal and walk to the vehicle in front of it; agree the meeting point and the stopping place with the operator when booking.

Coach parking and waiting

  • No coach rules are published. Car parks P31 and P21 are near the terminal, with short-term parking charged by the hour; parking spaces cannot be reserved.

By coach to the centre

  • about 17 km by road to the Zytglogge, in the centre of Bern, by the A6 motorway, about 30 min by coach in light traffic; longer at peak times

The road into Bern

The Zytglogge in the old town is about 17 km away by the A6, about 30 minutes in light traffic. Coach parking in the centre is changing: the city plans to turn several spaces near the BärenPark and the station into set-down places from 2027, so the operator checks the rules in force before your trip.

There is no station at the airport. Bus line 160 links it with Belp and Rubigen stations.

Straight on to the Bernese Oberland

Belp lies on the Oberland side of Bern, which helps a ski week or a Klassenlager. Interlaken is about 1 h by coach in light traffic, Grindelwald about 1 h 30 min, Gstaad about 1 h 45 min.

Wengen and Mürren have no road access. A coach bound for them stops in the valley, at Lauterbrunnen for example, and the group continues by train or cable car. For the Valais, a full-size coach cannot use the Lötschberg car-carrying train, which takes buses with at most 22 seats. Plan the road route, or a smaller bus.

What organisers ask us

Is Bern Airport a good choice for a large group?

It is handy when a holiday flight from Belp suits the group: the terminal is small and the transfer short. Flights are limited and seasonal, though, so many groups fly from Zürich or Genève and travel on by coach.

What if the plane lands late?

No waiting area for coaches is published. The operator agrees a stopping place with you, and the driver checks the landing time before pulling up.

Do we need a coach for a group of 12?

No. Up to 8 passengers travel in a car with driver; from 9 it is a bus. For 12 people a minibus fits, and larger groups take a midi or full-size coach.
