Verbier Groups: Le Châble Gondola and the Valais
The tourist board's advice for day visitors is short: park in Le Châble and take the gondola. For a coach group that is usually the plan as well, because Verbier publishes no coach park.
Le Châble comes first
The Curala car park beside the station and gondola has 731 spaces in four areas. Overnight, from midnight to 05.00, P1 to P3 are closed to parking, and P4 admits nothing taller than 2.10 m. Gondolas climb to Médran daily, starting early and running until almost midnight.
The regional train from Martigny takes about 25 minutes to Le Châble. On winter weekends the Verbier Express runs direct from Geneva. A group can come by train and meet its coach in the valley.

If the coach goes up the hill
The road from Le Châble takes about 15 minutes. The commune lists four car parks and a brief drop-off at Médran, but no coach park and no coach set-down rule. The operator settles the stop in advance, especially on a ski-week changeover.

Where a coach can stop in Verbier, and other rules
- Geneva Airport (GVA) is about 161 km by road from the Place Centrale, about 2.5 h in light traffic; Bern Airport (BRN) is about 163 km (about 2.75 h). Sion (SIR) is about 52 km (about 1 h); in October 2026 its only scheduled route was a seasonal summer service, so treat it as a business and charter airport in winter. Journeys take longer at peak times.
- Railway: Le Châble station in the valley has regional trains from Martigny (about 25 minutes) and, on winter weekends and some holidays, the direct Verbier Express from Geneva. The gondola from Le Châble to Verbier (Médran) runs daily, with a replacement bus during maintenance. Bus line 251 (Le Châble – Verbier) climbs the road from Le Châble to the "Station Poste" stop on the Place Centrale in Verbier.
- Parking: the tourist board advises day visitors to park in Le Châble and take the gondola. The Curala car park in Le Châble, by the station and the gondola, has 731 spaces in four areas (no parking on P1–P3 from midnight to 05:00; a 2.10 m height limit on P4). In Verbier the commune lists the Marais Verts (covered, 230 spaces), Périn (400 spaces, about 15 minutes on foot from the centre, closed to the public during the Verbier Festival), Catogne and Ermitage car parks, and a short drop-off bay at Médran. No official coach park or coach set-down rule was found in Verbier, so the operator confirms the coach stop in advance.
- Passes and tunnels: the Grand-Saint-Bernard pass (2,469 m) is usually closed from October to June; the Grand-Saint-Bernard road tunnel to Aosta is open all year, with frequent night-time restrictions during works planned until 2027. The Col de la Forclaz towards Chamonix and the Simplon pass are open all year.
- Verbier Festival: 14 July to 1 August 2027, with concerts in the Salle des Combins and the church; the Périn car park is closed to the public for the festival period. Xtreme Verbier, the Freeride World Tour final on the Bec des Rosses, is held at the end of March; the 2027 date is not yet published.
- Cross-border day trips: a coach based in Switzerland may take a group into a neighbouring country and back. The road rules, charges and any low-emission rules of that country apply on its roads, so the operator checks them before the trip.
- Cabotage: under Article 20 of the EU-Switzerland Land Transport Agreement, a coach operator established in an EU state may not carry passengers between two places in Switzerland. A group journey that starts and ends in Switzerland therefore needs a vehicle from an operator established in Switzerland. Coaches may carry groups across the border in both directions; these occasional services need no authorisation, but the coach carries a journey form (Fahrtenblatt).
- Road charges: coaches and other buses over 3.5 tonnes pay the flat-rate heavy vehicle fee (pauschale Schwerverkehrsabgabe, PSVA) for every day they are in Switzerland, on all public roads, and need no motorway vignette; foreign-registered coaches pay the PSVA online through the BAZG "Via" portal or app before entering Switzerland. Minibuses and cars up to 3.5 tonnes need the motorway vignette (the e-vignette linked to the number plate, or the sticker) to use motorways and expressways (Autobahnen / autoroutes / autostrade).
- Speed and driving bans: on motorways and expressways coaches may drive at up to 100 km/h (articulated buses and scheduled buses with standing places excepted); heavy vehicles are otherwise limited to 80 km/h. The Swiss night driving ban (22:00 to 05:00) and the Sunday and public-holiday ban for heavy vehicles do not apply to vehicles carrying passengers.
- Drivers' hours: coach drivers follow the Swiss ordinance ARV 1, aligned with the EU rules: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest, recorded by tachograph. Drivers of foreign-registered coaches must keep the same driving, break and rest rules in Switzerland. In domestic traffic, professional drivers of cars and of minibuses with up to 16 seats besides the driver follow ARV 2 instead.
- Winter: Switzerland has no general winter-tyre obligation, but a vehicle must be fit for the road conditions and the driver must keep control of it at all times; the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) recommends winter tyres from October to Easter. Where the sign "Schneeketten obligatorisch" / "chaînes à neige obligatoires" / "Catene per la neve obbligatorie" (sign 2.48) is shown, at least two drive wheels on the same axle must be fitted with snow chains.
Ski weeks in the 4 Vallées
The linked ski area covers some 410 km of pistes, and the season runs from November until the end of April. Geneva Airport is about 2.5 hours away and Bern Airport about 2.75 hours. Sion is about one hour, but in winter count it as a business and charter field.
There is no legal winter-tyre date in Switzerland; chains are required where the sign says so. Ask for a coach equipped for the Valais in winter.
Summer days from the valley
Martigny is about 40 minutes away, with the Fondation Pierre Gianadda and Barryland. The Grand-Saint-Bernard hospice opens in summer only, when its pass is open. Crossing the Col de la Forclaz, Chamonix takes roughly 1.5 hours; Glacier 3000's base on the Col du Pillon takes about 1.75.
Chillon castle on Lake Geneva is around 1.25 hours. Täsch, where groups change to the shuttle train for Zermatt, is about 2.25 hours: a long day, but one driver can manage it within the hours rules.
What organisers ask us
When is the Verbier Festival?
From 14 July to 1 August 2027, in the Salle des Combins and the church. During the festival the Périn car park is not open to the public.
Our coach from France brought us in. Can it take us on to Täsch?
No. An EU operator may carry a group across the border, but Verbier to Täsch is a trip between two Swiss places. That leg needs a coach from an operator established in Switzerland.
Is there a guided tour at the Gianadda?
Yes, for groups of 15 or more by booking. The foundation opens daily and also has Roman remains and a sculpture park.
