Engelberg and Titlis Coach Trips
Engelberg lies at the end of one valley road, about 20 km from the A2 exit Stans-Süd. The road is open all year. For most groups the goal is Titlis, and the Titlis cableways publish a coach arrival point for tour operators.
Car Park 1 at the valley station
Coaches arrive at Titlis Car Park 1 on the Gerschnistrasse, by the valley station, where local staff help groups. Three car parks lie next to the station. Group tickets and lunches are booked ahead through the Titlis group booking form.
The cableways are busiest from 10.30 to 12.30. A group that starts the ascent before that sees more and queues less. The summit and glacier are open all year. The Titlis Tower on the summit has a separate ticket for its Horizon Deck, with room for 250 at once.

The village and the abbey
No public coach park is listed for the village centre; the coach's waiting place is agreed with the operator. At the Benedictine abbey, public tours run three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and must be booked. Groups of 15 or more can have a tour of their own.
For a dinner or meeting, the Kursaal of 1902 seats about 420. On the sunny side of the valley, Brunni is a gentler half day than Titlis.

Where a coach can stop in Engelberg, and other rules
- Zurich Airport (ZRH) is about 102 km by road from the village centre, about 1.75 h in light traffic; EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) is about 140 km (about 2.25 h) and Bern Airport (BRN) about 158 km (about 2.5 h). Journeys take longer at peak times.
- Road: Engelberg is reached only from the A2 motorway (Basel–Gotthard), exit Stans-Süd, then about 20 km up the valley road, which is open all year. Until the end of October 2026 there is heavy building-site traffic on the Stansstad–Engelberg stretch, with diversions and flaggers in places.
- Railway station: Engelberg station (Zentralbahn from Luzern, about 45 minutes) is in the village. The line is closed for works until 1 November 2026 (Stansstad–Engelberg until 18 October, then Dallenwil–Engelberg), with replacement buses to Engelberg station and the Titlis valley station.
- Titlis by coach: the Titlis cableways publish a coach arrival point for tour operators at Car Park 1 by the valley station (Gerschnistrasse), where local staff help groups; three car parks lie next to the valley station. Group tickets and lunches are booked in advance through the Titlis group booking form. No public coach park in the village centre was found, so the operator confirms where the coach waits.
- Titlis in 2026–2029: the peak station is being rebuilt until spring 2029, but the summit and the glacier activities stay open, with some changed routes, building noise and limited wheelchair access (advance notice needed for wheelchairs and pushchairs). The rotating Titlis Rotair is closed for maintenance until 11 December 2026; meanwhile the Titlis Connect cable car (65 people per cabin, not rotating) runs from Stand to the summit. The busiest time is 10:30 to 12:30; first ascent 08:30, last descent 17:00 (summer and autumn 2026).
- FIS Ski Jumping World Cup at the Gross-Titlis-Schanze: 18 to 20 December 2026 (qualifying on Friday 18, finals on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December), followed by a Continental Cup on 27 and 28 December 2026. The event ticket includes public transport from Luzern.
- Cabotage: under Article 20 of the EU-Switzerland Land Transport Agreement, a coach operator established in an EU state may not carry passengers between two places in Switzerland. A group journey that starts and ends in Switzerland therefore needs a vehicle from an operator established in Switzerland. Coaches may carry groups across the border in both directions; these occasional services need no authorisation, but the coach carries a journey form (Fahrtenblatt).
- Road charges: coaches and other buses over 3.5 tonnes pay the flat-rate heavy vehicle fee (pauschale Schwerverkehrsabgabe, PSVA) for every day they are in Switzerland, on all public roads, and need no motorway vignette; foreign-registered coaches pay the PSVA online through the BAZG "Via" portal or app before entering Switzerland. Minibuses and cars up to 3.5 tonnes need the motorway vignette (the e-vignette linked to the number plate, or the sticker) to use motorways and expressways (Autobahnen / autoroutes / autostrade).
- Speed and driving bans: on motorways and expressways coaches may drive at up to 100 km/h (articulated buses and scheduled buses with standing places excepted); heavy vehicles are otherwise limited to 80 km/h. The Swiss night driving ban (22:00 to 05:00) and the Sunday and public-holiday ban for heavy vehicles do not apply to vehicles carrying passengers.
- Drivers' hours: coach drivers follow the Swiss ordinance ARV 1, aligned with the EU rules: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest, recorded by tachograph. Drivers of foreign-registered coaches must keep the same driving, break and rest rules in Switzerland. In domestic traffic, professional drivers of cars and of minibuses with up to 16 seats besides the driver follow ARV 2 instead.
- Winter: Switzerland has no general winter-tyre obligation, but a vehicle must be fit for the road conditions and the driver must keep control of it at all times; the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) recommends winter tyres from October to Easter. Where the sign "Schneeketten obligatorisch" / "chaînes à neige obligatoires" / "Catene per la neve obbligatorie" (sign 2.48) is shown, at least two drive wheels on the same axle must be fitted with snow chains.
Titlis with Lake Lucerne
Luzern is about 50 minutes away. Alpnachstad, for the Pilatus cogwheel railway, and the Stanserhorn are each about 40 minutes. Boats on Lake Lucerne stop at Stansstad, Buochs and Beckenried, so the coach can meet the group at a pier instead of the town.
In Luzern, coaches need a voucher booked online to stop at Schwanenplatz and Löwenplatz. Book it with the rest of the day.
Arriving from further away
Zurich Airport is about 1.75 hours from the village, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg about 2.25 hours and Bern Airport about 2.5 hours. Interlaken is about 1.75 hours over the Brünig. Andermatt and Einsiedeln Abbey are good longer days, each under two hours.
What organisers ask us
What happens at the Gross-Titlis-Schanze in December?
The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup runs there from 18 to 20 December 2026, and a Continental Cup follows on 27 and 28 December. Tickets cover public transport from Luzern, so a coach is optional.
Is Titlis open in winter?
Yes, the cableways run all year. Mid-morning is the busiest time, so an early departure from the hotel pays off in every season.
Can the Titlis staff meet our coach?
Local staff at Car Park 1 help groups as they arrive. Book the tickets and any lunch through the group form first, so the visit is ready before the coach leaves.
