Montreux Jazz Festival by Coach: Parking, Closures, Late Returns
Edition 61 of the festival fills the Montreux lakefront from 2 to 17 July 2027. The festival asks visitors to come by public transport and warns that parking is short. A coach still suits a group if you know where it may stand and when roads close.
Tickets, halls and the free stages
Tickets are needed for the Auditorium Stravinski and the Montreux Jazz Lab, both inside the renewed convention centre. Around the site, free stages carry concerts, DJ sets and jam sessions. The programme is due in April 2027, so book the coach once you hold concert tickets.
Where coaches parked in 2026
For the 2026 edition the festival listed no special coach parking. Coaches could use the town-centre places on the Grand-Rue, or park at Chillon, past Montreux towards Villeneuve. Wait for the 2027 advice before fixing anything.
From the motorway, signs lead drivers to car parks in Montreux, Villeneuve and La Tour-de-Peilz. Beside the castle, parking is normally limited to 3 hours with a disc, so the operator checks the rules before planning a long evening there.

Evening road closures
In 2026 the Grand-Rue was closed to private traffic each night of the festival, between 20:00 and 02:00 early in the week (Monday to Wednesday) and between 17:00 and 03:00 from Thursday to Sunday. A coach booked for the evening should set down before the closure starts and collect the group outside the closed stretch.
Late finishes and the driver's day
Coaches with passengers are exempt from the Swiss night driving ban, so a return after midnight is legal. The limit is the driver, who needs at least 11 hours of rest after the shift. If the same driver did an airport run that morning, a late concert may need a second driver.
Guests staying in Lausanne are about 30 minutes away by road. Anyone who stays on after the coach has left still has options: in 2026 there were extra trains, night runs on the Glion funicular until 03:00 and late buses on lines 201 and 204.

About 91 km, around 1 h 05 min to the Auditorium Stravinski in light traffic. From Zürich Airport it is about 211 km and roughly 2 h 30 min.
Will the 2026 closures apply in 2027?
They show the recent pattern, not a promise. Check the 2027 times when the festival publishes them, and we adjust the pick-up to match.
Can we add Lavaux to a festival day?
With care. The Lavaux vineyards have narrow roads and very little parking, and no official coach parking was found in Cully, Chexbres or Rivaz. A midi-coach copes better than a full-size coach, and the operator confirms where it can stop.
